How to fix a slow PC

How to turn your slow computer into lightning fast machine.

slow computerAre you pulling your hair out waiting for your sluggish PC
to load a website?  That WAS  me!

Does it feel like life is slowly passing you by… while the progress bar inches across your computer screen just to open a program?

And watching a simple movie clip - forget it.

It’d be faster to wait ’til the DVD makes it to the video store!

Here’s something most people don’t know…

Every keystroke and every click…in fact everything you do on your PC is being tracked and stored right this minute…slowing your PC to a crawl and leaving your vital and personal information up for grabs.

Most people only find this out the hard way… after their computer slows to a crawl. Or worse, after their personal information has been compromised.

My friend Kris Mainieri, used to be a computer hacker. Now, before you get too nervous, he wasn’t one of those guys who went around stealing people’s credit card numbers and stuff.  It was more of a game his friends and him would play… they would try to see how secure they could make their systems knowing the other guy was trying to hack in.

It taught him a lot about how vulnerable the average PC is. Imagine a mall parking lot at Christmas and every car is unlocked.

That’s pretty much what the cyber universe looks like to a hacker. Now, there’s a simple formula that shows you exactly what to do step by step!

If you’ve ever wondered why your computer seems to run so much slower than it used to…

If you’ve ever heard of frustrated people losing all their data because of an unexpected crash, infection or other disaster…

Or, if you’ve ever worried about having to fork over hundreds of dollars for upgrades or a visit from your local computer geek…

You can kiss all the worries, wondering and frustration goodbye…forever!

Disk Defragmenter

Defragment Your Hard Disk.

As you perform your daily routine, get regular updates from windows and various aplications, your hard disk starts to suffer. Data belonging to the same document gets split and spread all over the disk. [just like a library gets messy over time if no one tidy's up] This can dramatically slow down your hard disk access time, trying to retrieve scattered data.

By Defragmenting your hard disk regularly, files and data are re-arraged and tidied up into blocks.

To start the process:

Windows XP: Go to >>> Start >>> All Programs >>> Accessories >>> System tools >>> Disk Defragmenter.

Select DriveC - Action - Defragment.
[Vista users can schedule a time for this task.]

Disk Defragmenter

This may take several hours; its the sort of task you can leave running over night, just like the regular virus scan.

Reboot, and you have a speedier computer. :)

It is recommended that you have at least 30% free space on your hard drive. [if its over crowded you may want to condsider an external hard drive or uninstalling unused programs]

Disk Cleanup

Clean your Hard disk.

As you use your computer, your hard disk accumulates lots of temporary files and other such like junk that is not needed.

This just clogs up the valuable space on your hard drive. You should regularly use the Windiows Disk Cleanup tool to do remove the junk.

Close ALL Programs, web pages etc. then:

Windows Vista/Xp  >>> START >>> All Programs >>> Accessories >>> System Tools >>> Disk Cleanup.

driveC

Windows will first do a scan to see much much space it can free. Click OK.  [if you have not done this for a while it may take some time]

Windows will then inform you of how much can be freed and give you a selection. Tick all boxes with excess files you wish to remove and click OK to start the cleanup.
[This will also take a little time - just be patient.]

Disk Cleanup

You can now reboot your computer, and notice how it runs a bit more smoothly.
